The Washington County community is grieving the devastating loss of Harry Spruill, 42, and Whitney Spruill, 37, who tragically lost their lives in a collision on NC-32 on April 1. Their passing has left family, friends, and neighbors heartbroken, as a family’s world was forever changed in a moment of unimaginable sorrow.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 11:42 a.m., when Harry Spruill was driving north on NC-32 with two passengers in a Ford passenger car. The vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a southbound freightliner grain truck that was unoccupied. Tragically, both Harry Spruill and Whitney Spruill were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Amid this tragedy, there is a small ray of hope: the second passenger, an infant, survived the crash and was transported to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the freightliner truck was not harmed.
