In Loving Memory of Demarcus Perkins, Kristina Carver, Emley Chamblee, Sarabeth Chamblee, and Ryan C. Peterson
The community of Stone County, Mississippi, is wrapped in deep sorrow following a tragic accident that claimed five precious lives in an instant. What began as an ordinary Friday afternoon turned into a moment of unimaginable loss—one that has left families grieving, hearts broken, and an entire community searching for comfort.
According to authorities, the devastating crash occurred around 1 p.m. on Pump Branch Road, just off Highway 49. A van traveling westbound collided with a northbound freight train, resulting in a catastrophic impact that pushed the vehicle hundreds of yards down the tracks. In that moment, five lives were taken far too soon, leaving behind a silence that echoes deeply in the hearts of those who knew and loved them.
Today, we remember and honor Demarcus Perkins, Kristina Carver, Emley Chamblee, Sarabeth Chamblee, and Ryan C. Peterson—each of them unique, each of them deeply cherished, and each of them leaving behind a legacy that will never be forgotten.
Demarcus Perkins, 23, is remembered for his vibrant spirit and the energy he brought into every room. He had a way of connecting with people, of making others feel seen and appreciated. His presence was a gift, and his absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled.
Kristina Carver, 45, was a devoted mother whose life revolved around her family. Her love was unwavering, her strength undeniable, and her kindness touched everyone she encountered. She leaves behind a legacy of care, compassion, and unconditional love that will continue to live on through all who knew her.
Her daughters, Emley Chamblee, 22, and Sarabeth Chamblee, 20, were young women with bright futures and dreams still unfolding. They shared not only a mother’s love but also a bond as sisters that was unbreakable. Emley’s warmth and Sarabeth’s light will forever remain in the memories of friends and loved ones. Their lives, though short, were filled with meaning, laughter, and promise.
Ryan C. Peterson, 26, served his community as a corrections officer with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. He was a man of dedication and duty, someone who chose a path of service and responsibility. Beyond his profession, he was a son, a friend, and a person whose life carried purpose and integrity.
Together, these five individuals shared a journey that ended far too soon, but their stories do not end here. They live on in the hearts of their families, in the memories shared by friends, and in the countless lives they touched along the way.
As the community mourns, thoughts and prayers also remain with the surviving passenger who was airlifted for medical care. In times like these, we are reminded of the fragility of life and the importance of holding our loved ones close.
Though words can never fully ease the pain of such a profound loss, may there be some comfort in knowing that these lives mattered deeply. They were loved, they were valued, and they will always be remembered.
May their souls rest in eternal peace, and may their families find strength in the love that surrounds them during this incredibly difficult time.
