His passing has left a deep and lasting sorrow among family, friends, and all who knew him, as they struggle to come to terms with such a sudden and heartbreaking loss.
According to troopers with the Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7:53 p.m. along U.S. Route 6 near Sunnyside Road in Vermilion. Preliminary reports indicate that a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Grady Watkins, 21, of Lexington, Tennessee, was stopped at a traffic light when Corey, riding a 2025 Yamaha YZF-R7 motorcycle, struck the rear of the vehicle after failing to maintain an assured clear distance ahead.
Emergency responders arrived swiftly at the scene, including the Vermilion Police Department, Vermilion Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance EMS, and D&A Towing. Corey was transported with life-threatening injuries, and despite the urgent efforts to save him, he later succumbed to those injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time—an important reminder of his effort to ride responsibly, even in the face of unforeseen tragedy.
While the driver of the Silverado was unharmed, the incident has left a profound mark on everyone involved and on the wider community. The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to understand every detail surrounding that fateful evening.
Yet beyond the facts of the accident lies the story of a life—a man who meant so much more than the circumstances of his passing.
