In Loving Memory of Mark Palacio

The city of San Angelo stands united in grief as it mourns the heartbreaking and untimely loss of Mark Palacio, a beloved son, friend, and community member whose life was tragically taken on Saturday, March 21, 2026. At just 32 years old, Mark’s passing has left a deep and painful void that words can scarcely capture.

In the early hours of that morning, at approximately 1:29 a.m., officers with the San Angelo Police Department responded to reports of a stabbing in the 100 block of East Concho Avenue. When they arrived, they found Mark suffering from multiple stab wounds near the parking lot of the former Western Mattress building. He was rushed to Shannon Medical Center, where medical staff worked tirelessly in an effort to save his life. Despite their heroic efforts, Mark succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a community in shock and sorrow.

Investigators later determined that the tragic incident stemmed from an earlier altercation at the Pour House on Paint Rock Road. What began as a confrontation escalated as those involved relocated to the downtown area. After being denied entry to Ranch 125, tensions rose once more, leading to a second confrontation in a nearby parking lot. It was there that violence erupted, and Mark sustained the injuries that would ultimately claim his life.

Authorities acted swiftly in identifying those involved. Johnny Fernandez, 41, was arrested and charged with murder, while Pedro Rivera, 25, faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. While justice now moves forward, it does little to ease the profound heartbreak felt by those who knew and loved Mark.

But beyond the tragedy of that night, Mark Palacio’s life was one filled with meaning, connection, and presence. He was known as someone who brought warmth into every space he entered. His laughter was genuine, his spirit vibrant, and his heart open to those around him. Whether among close friends or casual acquaintances, Mark had a way of making people feel welcome and valued—a rare and beautiful gift.

To his family, Mark was more than a name in a headline. He was a source of pride, love, and countless cherished memories. He was someone whose life, though far too short, was rich with moments that will forever be held close. The pain of his loss is immeasurable, but so too is the love he leaves behind.

This tragedy has also shaken the wider San Angelo community, marking the second homicide in just a matter of days. It serves as a sobering reminder of how fragile life can be and how quickly moments can change forever. In the midst of this grief, the community comes together—not only to mourn but to support one another, to reflect, and to honor a life taken too soon.

As we remember Mark Palacio, let us not define him by the violence that ended his life, but by the humanity, kindness, and presence that defined it. Let us hold onto the memories—the laughter, the conversations, the shared experiences—and allow them to live on in our hearts.

To his loved ones, may you find strength in one another and comfort in the outpouring of support that surrounds you. May you carry forward his memory in ways that bring light even in the darkest moments.

Rest peacefully, Mark Palacio. Your life mattered. Your presence was felt. And your memory will forever remain a part of the hearts you touched.
