Teen Kearon Deon Taylor, 16, Fatally Shot in Fort Worth Apartment; Suspect Identified as 22-Year-Old Eric Lewis Moore

FORT WORTH, Texas (May 22, 2025) — A tragic shooting has left a 16-year-old boy dead and a 22-year-old man on the run after an altercation in a Fort Worth apartment complex turned deadly Wednesday evening. Authorities have identified the suspect as Eric Lewis Moore, who is now wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Kearon Deon Taylor.

The Fort Worth Police Department responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 8:00 p.m. in the 3800 block of Great Basin Lane. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Taylor inside an apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.

Emergency responders quickly attempted life-saving measures, but Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner later confirmed that the teen died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling the death a homicide.

Shooting Followed Possible Gambling Dispute

Initial findings from detectives suggest that Taylor and Moore may have been involved in a gambling-related confrontation just outside the apartment complex shortly before shots were fired. According to police, an argument escalated, leading Moore to allegedly pull a firearm and shoot Taylor multiple times.

Witnesses report seeing Taylor run toward an apartment unit, possibly trying to escape, before collapsing. Moore reportedly fled the area on foot and has not been seen since.

Suspect at Large, Considered Armed and Dangerous

As of Thursday morning, Eric Lewis Moore remains at large. Police have issued a warrant for his arrest and are urging anyone who sees him or has knowledge of his whereabouts to contact authorities immediately. He is considered armed and dangerous, and the public is advised not to approach him.

Fort Worth Police have not disclosed whether Moore has a criminal history, but investigators believe he may still be in the North Texas area. Surveillance footage from nearby buildings is being reviewed, and detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for additional witnesses and evidence.
