In Loving Memory of Christy Oralls, Katherine Gray, and Paisley Wood
The Dryden community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of three cherished lives taken too soon in a tragic house fire just off Route 13. On April 1, 2026, a devastating fire claimed the lives of 30-year-old Christy Oralls, 31-year-old Katherine Gray, and 3-year-old Paisley Wood, leaving family, friends, and neighbors in deep sorrow.
According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Christy and Katherine were close relatives, and little Paisley was Christy’s beloved daughter. The three shared a bond that radiated love, laughter, and family togetherness—qualities that will now live forever in the hearts of those who knew them. Their presence brought joy and warmth to everyone around them, and their absence leaves an emptiness that words cannot fully express.
A fourth family member, 54-year-old David Welch, who rented the home, survived the fire and is currently receiving care at Upstate Medical Center. While David is in stable condition, the emotional weight of this tragedy is one that his entire family and the community will carry for a long time.
The fire also affected beloved pets. Investigators believe that four dogs perished in the blaze, and the loss of these loyal companions adds another layer of grief to this already unimaginable tragedy. Only one of the dogs has been recovered, and their absence is felt deeply by all who knew them.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but what is clear is the profound impact of the loss on the Dryden community. Christy, Katherine, and Paisley were more than names in a news report—they were mothers, daughters, nieces, and friends who brought light to those around them. Their laughter, care, and love will continue to echo in the memories of those who were blessed to know them.
As the family begins to navigate life without them, the community stands in solidarity, offering support, prayers, and compassion. In the wake of this tragedy, neighbors have shared stories of kindness, generosity, and the vibrant spirit of those lost, ensuring that their memory remains a guiding light for everyone touched by their lives.
Though their time was tragically short, the love Christy, Katherine, and Paisley shared with each other and with their community will never fade. In remembering them, we honor the joy they brought, the love they gave, and the lives they touched so deeply. May their souls rest in peace, and may their family find strength in the outpouring of love and support surrounding them.
