AMARILLO, Texas — The Amarillo community continues to mourn the tragic loss of lives following the shooting incidents that shook the city on March 22, 2026. Among the victims, the city is grieving the passing of Danny Shead, who succumbed to his injuries on March 26. The initial shooting occurred when a suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Dustin Johnson, drove into a home near NW 14th and Bonham and opened fire. In this senseless act of violence, 53-year-old Teodoro Garcia-Herrera was also killed. Five others sustained injuries and were rushed to local hospitals, their conditions adding to the community’s concern and sorrow.

The suspect, Dustin Johnson, who also had been involved in a related shooting at US Loop 335 and Western Street, was killed in an officer-involved shooting. That prior incident claimed the lives of Aaron Harper and Courtney Holman, further amplifying the sense of tragedy across Amarillo.
