In Loving Memory of Cresencio Valdez
With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we remember and honor the life of Cresencio Valdez, whose life was tragically taken in a devastating crash on the afternoon of Friday, March 20, 2026. His passing has left a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the entire Marion community—one that words can scarcely fill.
On that day, troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Marion Post, responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of State Route 309 and State Route 37 in Grand Township. What began as an ordinary afternoon turned into an unimaginable tragedy that would forever change the lives of those involved.
Cresencio, 65, was a passenger in a black Pontiac G6 driven by Manuel Valdez. According to preliminary reports, the vehicle was traveling northbound on State Route 37 when it entered the intersection and was struck by a Buick Enclave. The impact was severe, forcing the Pontiac off the roadway where it collided with multiple roadside structures. Despite the swift response of emergency personnel, Cresencio was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Though the details of the crash paint a heartbreaking picture, they cannot define the man Cresencio Valdez truly was. He was more than a name in a report—he was a beloved father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He was someone who carried wisdom earned through years of life, someone whose presence brought comfort, guidance, and quiet strength to those around him.
Cresencio’s life was marked by resilience, kindness, and a deep sense of family. He belonged to a generation that understood the value of hard work, sacrifice, and unconditional love. Whether through gentle advice, shared laughter, or simple acts of care, he left lasting impressions on everyone fortunate enough to know him. His family remembers him not only for what he did, but for who he was—a steady and loving figure whose legacy will live on through them.
In moments like these, we are reminded of how fragile life is, and how quickly everything can change. Yet even in the midst of grief, there is gratitude—for the years shared, the memories created, and the love that will never fade. Cresencio’s story does not end with this tragedy; it continues in the lives he touched, the lessons he passed on, and the love that endures beyond his time here.
We also extend our thoughts to all those affected by this accident. Manuel Valdez, who sustained serious injuries, remains in our prayers as he fights to recover. The occupants of the second vehicle, including Kali Cannode, Darrick Gorenflo, and the young passengers, experienced a frightening ordeal, and we wish them healing and peace in the days ahead.
We acknowledge and thank the first responders and assisting agencies—including local fire departments, EMS teams, MedFlight, and the Marion County Coroner’s Office—whose swift actions and dedication brought aid and care during such a critical moment. Their service reflects the strength and compassion of a community coming together in times of need.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains not only on understanding what happened, but on remembering the life that was lost. Cresencio Valdez will not be forgotten. His memory will live on in every story told, every tear shed, and every moment of love shared in his honor.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his family find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind.
Forever remembered. Forever loved.
